10m Red and Black 4mm Tinned Marine Wire — 20m Total
Two 10 metre cuts of 4 mm single-core tinned marine wire, one red and one black. 20 metres in the pack. Use the red for positive and the black for negative, run as two separate wires. Industry size is 4 mm. Conductor area is 1.85 mm², not 4 mm².
This is single-core wire, not twin sheath and not 3 core bilge cable. An automatic bilge pump needs three conductors in one sheath: 10m 3 core bilge pump wire. Sheathed red-and-black twin is in the marine cable collection.
What the two colours are for
Red and black single core is the usual pair for a 12 V or 24 V circuit where the two conductors do not need to sit in one jacket.
- Manual bilge pump. Red to the fused switch, black to negative.
- Lights, instruments and accessories on a short run.
- A positive feed and a separate negative back to the bus or battery.
- Extending an existing red and black pair.
Do not use this pack for an automatic bilge pump. That pump needs a third core for the float switch. Do not use it on 240 V, shore power or inverter output.

Standards
These are the construction standards for this single-core tinned marine wire. They are not a certificate that the finished boat complies.
- AS/NZS 1125. Tinned copper conductor.
- AS/NZS 3808. V90 PVC insulation.
- RoHS. Insulation compound is RoHS compliant.
This wire is extra-low voltage, for pleasure craft, and not for mains connection. AS/NZS 3000 is the wiring rules for the installation, not a standard this wire is certified to.
4 mm is not 4 mm²
On Australian auto and marine cable, 4 mm is the trade name. On this wire the copper is 1.85 mm², 26 strands of 0.30 mm. A 4 mm² building cable is a different product and will not fit the same terminals. Blue crimp terminals are the usual match for this conductor.
